基于语料库的《水浒传》沙博理译本汉英衔接性副词对比研究

Linking adverbials in Shui Hu Zhuan and Shapiro’s English version:A corpora-based contrastive study

无论汉语还是英语,衔接性副词在体现语篇逻辑关系中都起着不可替代的作用。我们运用自建的《水浒传》沙译本双语语料库进行检索,分类统计其中衔接性副词的使用特点,并与英语及汉语原创小说做对比,发现沙博理翻译的特别之处,既非亦步亦趋追随原文,也非任意'意译',而是最大化表现汉语原文的语言特点,实现中国文化'走出去'的目标。这种现象的出现有语言渗透的因素,也与沙博理特殊的译者身份及制度化层面的国家翻译实践密切相关。

Linking adverbials play an essential role in the formation of logical relationship in both English and Chinese discourses.Based on the Chinese-English parallel corpora of Outlaws of the Marsh,we investigated the use of the linking adverbials in the Chinese novel and its English translation by classifying them and making contrastive analysis of their characteristics.It is concluded that a)Sidney Shapiro’s translation does not follow the Chinese wording closely,nor does it only regard the sense;b)his translation intends to show to the world the characteristics of the Chinese language so as to enable Chinese culture to"go global";c)his translation strategy is partly a result of language penetrating and partly related with Shapiro’s translator identity as well as the National Translation Program on the institutionalized level.
