Most of Stevens' s poems focus on the relationship between nature and human life. His ecological holism originates from Western Christian culture and the Romantic literary traits coming out of the Anglo-American traits. Stevens thinks that nature is a biological community made up of all beings. His poetry reveals not only his attention to nature, but also his understanding of and reflection on women and their crisis for survival, representing his ecological holism in constructing a harmonious coexistence between both humanity and nature, and men and women.
