String quartet is always one of important forms in the compositions.It reflects the music ideas,technics and styles of composers.The string quartets of Shotakovich reflect his perfect technics in polyphony.This essay consists of two parts.The first part tells about the imitation polyphony in the string quartets of Shotakovich.The second one tells about the counterpoint polyphony in them.
