On the Existence of "Token-Value" and "Identified-Identifier" in the English Identifying Clause

"标示—价值"和"被识别者—识别者"是用于分析英语识别类小句的两种重要配置结构,是系统功能语法中及物性系统中的重要结构,但也引来了不少的争议,有些语言学家指出没有必要区分这两种结构。本文通过"标示—价值"和主位结构的对比以及"被识别者—识别者"和信息结构的对比,可以看出"标示—价值"和"被识别者—识别者"两结构分属于不同的功能属性,从而证明了其存在的必要性。

"Token-Value" and "Identified-Identifier" are two important structures in analyzing the English identifying clause. They are of great importance in transitivity of systemic functional grammar. However,they also invite much debate as some linguists claim that such fine distinctions are not needed. Based on the contrast between "Token-Value" and thematic structure and the contrast between "Identified-Identifier" and information structure,this paper intends to argue that it is necessary for "Token-Value" and "Identified-Identifier" to exist.
