摘要
以国际期刊文章中对"in other words"的使用为参照,细致全面地考察了中国英语专业硕士学位论文中"in other words"出现的句法环境、该标记语所引入的重述话语的限定范围,以及所引入的重述话语的语用功能。研究发现,二者在这三方面均存在差异。这表明,虽然这些英语学习者具有较高的英语水平,但有不少人尚未完全习得"in other words"的用法。
With reference to the use of in other words in international journal articles,the study investigates how Chinese MA students use this reformulation marker in their MA thesis writing,including its syntactic environments,local and global reformulation,and pragmatic functions performed by the reformulating segments introduced by this marker.The results show that various degrees of difference exist between two groups of data in these three aspects.The findings demonstrate that despite their high proficiency in English,some MA students cannot use this marker skillfully in their English writing for academic purposes.
