New Historicism emphasizes the interrelationship between history and text, so new historitist put forward two important concepts: "historicity of texts and texuality of history" and "subversion and containment". This paper will make an interpretation of Waiting For the Barbarians written by Cotzee from New Historicism’s perspective in order to shed light on Cotzee’s views on race and power in the novel.
