Chinese-English Translation of Publicity Materials from the Perspective of Relevance Theory

摘要 外宣翻译的发展如火如荼,但同时急需适当的理论作为指导原则。关联理论对于外宣翻译具有很强的解释力,可以帮助译者树立读者意识,从而提高外宣翻译的质量,增强对外宣传的效果。就分析实例而言,译者尤其需要在解释性翻译方面加强意识和相关培训。 The rapid development of Chinese-English translation of publicity materials needs the guidance of a proper theory.Chinese-English translation of publicity materials attaches great importance to taking common foreigners who have limited knowledge about China as its target readers,which comes to an agreement with the relevance theory in terms of translation.The latter incorporates the target reader into the whole translation process.Using the relevance theory,this paper analyzes examples of publicity materials from the three perspectives of respecting foreign readers’ language and expression habits,translating interpretively when culture difference exists and omitting redundancy.The results demonstrate that the relevance theory has a strong explanation force to Chinese-English translation of publicity materials,as well as providing theoretical instruction for enhancing its quality.As far as the examples herein are concerned,the analysis suggests that translators should strengthen their awareness and relevant training in terms of interpretive translation.
