英汉词典例证翻译原则探析

On the Example Translation in Compiling English-Chinese Dictionaries

了解词目的释义,是词典使用者的基本需求之一,多数词典例证的选用便是为了实证词目的释义,这样对应词的出现和再现都是使用者关注的焦点。为此,词典例证翻译必须保证对应词的焦点地位,尽量在译文中再现对应词。为正确理解对应词再现的例证基本原则,必须区分语用规约化的言语和非语用规约化的言语,以词目翻译为核心并不能割裂词目词翻译和例证翻译之间的内在联系,而对应词尽量再现的基本原则可以体现这种要求。

One of the fundamental needs of dictionary users is to know the meaning of the entry words. Most examples are chosen to illustrate the meaning of the entry words. The target equivalents of each word entry should be replicated in its example translations whenever possible, leaving other parts of the example to be translated flexibly. To abide by to principle of equivalent words, compliers of dictionaries shall distinguish between pragmatic language and non-pragmatic language. Focusing on entry word translation will not sever the internal links between the translation of entry words and the translation of examples, while focusing on equivalent words can meet the abovementioned requirements.
