Shakespeare Play’s Adaptation in China: An Interview with Professor Li Weimin

莎士比亚在中国的改编恰似川剧的"变脸",改变了外貌,留下了剧本的精神诉求。中国的川剧、黄梅戏、豫剧等都在莎士比亚戏剧变形的过程中发展自己,推动了中西文化交流,也扩大了莎士比亚在中国的影响。李伟民教授在接受采访中回答了莎士比亚戏剧"变脸"的研究现状、方法、价值,以及研究的重点、难点,并就莎士比亚的现代性问题作了新阐释。

Shakespeare works’ adaptation in China is like the Sichuan Opera "Facing Changing", changing its face but keeping the script’s spiritual aspirations. Chinese traditional opera, such as Sichuan Opera, Huangmei Opera, Yu Opera, learns from Shakespeare and gain their own development during cultural exchange in Shakespeare deformation process, promoting Shakespeare’s influence in China. In this interview, Professor Li Weimin answered questions concerning the research status of Shakespeare works’ adaptation, methods, values, and focus of the study as well the difficulties. Professor Li also gave his own interpretation on the modernity issue of Shakespeare.
