高等院校独立学院校名英译研究

A Study on English Translations of Private College Names

在功能对等理论指导下,通过分类分析独立学院校名,重点研究学院/分校、学科名及专有名词的英译,研究结果表明,以'学院'命名的院校绝大多数译为'college',少数译为'institute''school'或'department';理工、商务、文理等相同学科属性的校名英译比较混乱;多数专有名词使用拼音转写,且存在单词拼写及大小写等问题。虽独立院校校名的结构比较统一,但其英译仍需规范化、标准化,以利高校对外交流。

Based on Nida’s Functional Equivalence theory, this article has classified and analyzed the private college names, especially the translation of college, disciplines and proper nouns. The results show that most of the "学院" are translated into "college", a few into "institute", "school" or "department". The translations of some disciplines such as science, commerce and arts & sciences are still in a mess. A majority of the proper nouns are translated by Pinyin, and there are still some spelling mistakes and capitalization problems. To some extent, the structure of the private college names are more unified. However, the translation still needs to be standardized, so as to facilitate communication.
