东吴时期 ,会稽士人大量进入政坛 ,但是他们的政治地位并不显要。因为他们处于江东集团与淮泗集团竞争的夹缝里 ,成为他们斗争的受害者。同时 ,会稽士族自身经济实力的限制也是造成这种状况的另一个原因。而这种政治地位的不显要状况既导致会稽士族出现了分化 ,也促使会稽士族谋求摆脱这种状况。

A large nurnber of intellectuals from Kuaiji entered political circles in the Period of East Wu,but they failed to get prominent political position,because they were between the conflicts of Jiangdong Clique and Huaisi Clique and became victims of their struggle.Another reason lied in the fact that the aristocratic families from Kuaiji did not have sufficient economic power.Their not having important political position resulted in their being divided and forced them free themselves from this situation.The three rumors in the Later Period of East Wu was the expression of such a desire.
