在当前世界多元文化背景下 ,新一代美国华裔英语文学作家所关注的焦点相对于其前辈作家已有所转移 ,他们的写作已超出了华裔作家的范畴。任碧莲在其作品中将华人移民问题与其他族裔移民问题相结合 ,在更广阔的视野中观照各族裔移民在美国社会中的经历以及他们在文化身份问题上产生的困惑 ,提出文化身份、族裔性的自由流动为解决多元文化语境下文化冲突的合理方案。

Against the present-day background of multiculture,the newer generation of English-writing American-Chinese authors have shifted the focus of their attention away from that of the older generations,and their works have gone far beyond the categories covered by American-Chinese authors.For instance,Ms Gish JEN,in her works,combines the issue of Chinese immigrants with the issue of migrants of other ethnic minorities in an attempt to view both the experiences of various ethnic minorities and their dilemmas originated from their cultural identity.It is suggested that cultural identity and free flowing of ethnicity are to be included in a reasonable solution scheme against cultural conflicts in a multicultural context.
