Mass culture theory is the main part of Frankfurt school's critical thinking on bourgeois ideology. The theory believes that bourgeois culture is rooted in commodity fetishism which views culture as a special kind of commodity rather than a transcendent art form. Starting from its elitist position, Frankfurt school concludes that bourgeois culture has lost its free spirit of art and is used only as a tool of dominant ideology. Frankfurt school's analysis provides a useful viewpoint on bourgeois culture.
