摘要
玛格丽特·德拉布尔是英国当代著名的女作家。《冰期》是她的力作。作品反映了经济滞胀、精神颓废的 70年代英国社会生活的方方面面。这部小说成功地通过一系列意象向读者再现了那段艰难、失落的岁月。这些意象大体可分为以下三组 :冰雪意象 ;疾病和死亡的意象 ;以及监狱的意象。本文对这些意象的具体运用和不同的象征意义进行了分析 ,指出由于这些意象的成功使用 ,小说的主题得到了形象而具体的深化和拓展。
This paper presents an analysis of three groups of images used in Margaret Drabble's novel The Ice Age, namely, the image of ice and snow; the image of disease and death; and the image of prison. By working out the different meanings of these images, mainly in terms of their symbolic meanings as far as the theme of the novel is concerned, the author claims that the application of imagery in the three aspects contributes to the width and profoundness of the theme in this fiction.
