The particular style, music thoughts and the way of expressing of Pu Songling's popular music made itself a distinctive genre among the vast secular music of the Ming and Qing Dyansty. As a great literary master,he based his music on the literary taste and the flowing enthusiasm, while never forgot the feeling of the simplicity of the folk people. With the inheritance of the Ming and Qing Dynasties'secular music and theirs artistic forms,by using his literary and creative talents,Pu Songling skillfully conneted the Zi Chuan dialect to the melodies,and made the music elegant and typical. In this article,the analysis is focused on the modes and the melody's characteristics, in order to find the essence of his popular music.
