摘要
F.S.Fitzgerald published an article on Scribner in Nov.1931, depicting the American society of 1920s, naming it Jazz Age; Half a century later, Toni Morrison published her novel entitled Jazz, in which the problems Fitzgerald dealt with in his article are developed one by one. The two works show the two writers' great insight. This paper analyses the novel's deep meanings in two parts: the call of the Jazz Age and the disappearance of hopes in the Jazz Age. Like Fitzgerald, Toni Morrison exposes the spiritual crisis lying behind the great wealth of 1920s through Jazz; Different from the former, Toni Morrison focuses on the black's tears and bitterness caused by their disappointment with the Jazz Age.
