道家文化对张炜的影响是潜隐然而又是深刻的,张炜对道家的价值观表现了明显的接受与认同:他突出地关注自然,要求平等地对待自然,反对以损害自然为代价发展经济;他赞美质朴自然的人性,强烈抨击那些巧言善辩、虚伪奸诈的恶人。在《古船》等作品中,他肯定了柔弱不争的处世哲学,而对财富的积聚、权利的争夺表现了本能的恐惧。道家精神在张炜的作品中留下了深刻的印记。

Unconsciously yet deeply influencing Zhang Wei, the culture of Taoism plays an important role of restriction and domination in the deep structure of his work. Apparently, the author accepts and approves of the values of Taoism: he concerns about nature, requires equal treatment of it, opposes to develop the economy at the cost of the damage of nature. He praises simple and unabandoned humanity, vehemently condemns those voluble, hypocritical and fraudulent villains. In his works such as Gu Chuan (i.e. An Ancient Boat), he affirms weak and indifferent philosophy of life, expresses instinctive phobias about the accumulation of wealth and the scramble for power. In conclusion, the essence of Taoism makes its mark on the works of Zhang Wei.
