A Survey on the Modern Concept of Ruling the Country by Morality

以德治国思想是以历史唯物主义为指导 ,对中国传统文化及其德治思想的批判继承和合理吸收 ,坚持以德治国和依法治国相结合 ,坚持先进性要求与广泛性要求相结合 ,是对传统德治思想的超越 ,有利于中国传统思想文化在新的历史时期推陈出新、发扬光大。

The article consists of two parts. The first part summarizes the six major components and three characteristics of the Chinese traditional concept of ruling the country by virtue. On this basis,the second part elaborates that the modern concept of ruling the country by morality not only inherits but also transcends the traditional one. It achieves this purpose by analyzing the shortcomings of the Chinese traditional concept of ruling the country by virtue in four aspects: the neglect of the legal system,the class limitations,the historical limitations and the obscurity of moral levels
