略论清末枢臣翁同(龠禾)

Weng Tong-he:an Important Official at the End of Qing Dynasty

翁同在清末政治生活中是一位颇有影响的人物。在其 4 3年的仕宦生涯中 ,为维护满清封建统治做出了不小贡献 ,尤其是在对待中法战争、中日甲午战争和变法维新运动上 ,表现了高尚的民族气节和革新富国的精神。但他毕竟是一位封建旧式的官僚知识分子 ,其阶级和历史的局限性在所难免 。

Weng Tong-he was politically influential at the end of Qing Dynasty .He contributed a lot to presevere the feudal system in the 43 years of his political life.He demonstrated great national integrity and innovation spirit during the Sino-French War ,the Sino-Japanese War and the Reform Movement .But limited by the class and the history as a feudal bureaucratic intellectual,he was dimissed at last and had to end his political.
