Written by the American novelist Charles Fraizer, Cold Mountain describes an arduous home-coming journey during the blockages and atrocities of the Civil War through the experiences of a deserter named Inman. At the same time, the sisterhood between Ada and Ruby as well as their eco-feminism growth spotlights a more pro-found subject-the complicated relationship between human beings and the soil. From the perspective of eco-femi-nism, this paper analyzes the critical construction of subjectivity with the growth of the two female characters, and explores how the women who are trapped in obedience and solitude pursue the reconstruction of their subjectivity through interactions with nature as well as with other people.
