典籍英译与东方情调化翻译倾向

English translation of Chinese classics and its orientalization trend

典籍英译是中国传统文化对外传播的主要途径,中国海外文化形象的变迁与"东方情调化"翻译策略从隐性到显性的转变有关。本文以英国汉学家翟林奈1910年《孙子兵法》学术型英译本为研究对象,从"学理性东方情调""心理性东方情调""阐释性东方情调"等三方面探讨了典籍英译过程中东方情调化翻译倾向的译学价值。我们认为,采取东方情调化翻译策略既可改变世界多元文化的扁平化趋势,又能保持中国文化的固有特征。

English translation of ancient Chinese classic is always the important way to spread the traditional Chinese culture abroad. The change of oversea Chinese image is related to the transition of orientalization trend, which is reflected evidently in the process. The paper attempts to analyze the scholarship value of orientalization trends in the Lionel Giles’ s English version of Sun Zi: The Art of War regarding academic orientalization, psychological orientalization and hermeneutical orientalization. It is claimed that orientalization may transform the uniformity trend of cultural diversity, and retain Chinese cultural identity.
