Textual Research on the Word "Cheng" in Silk Books of Mawangdui

马王堆帛书《老子》乙本卷前古佚书之三,篇末题云《称》。文中汇集许多格言警句,是研究古代思想的新资料。《吕氏春秋·当染》云:'必称此二士也。'高诱注:'称,说也。'《礼记·射义》云:'旄期称道不乱者。'郑玄注:'称,犹言也。'《淮南子》有《说林》,《说苑》有《谈丛》,与此相类。

At the end of the second volume pre-lost book Ⅲ of Laozi in silk books of Mawangdui, there is the name of this part called 'Cheng'. This paper brings together a number of aphorisms and provides new information for the study of ancient thought. The book Dangran·Lüshi Chunqiu says:' These two men must be mentioned.' Gaoyou notes: 'Cheng means say.' The book Sheyi·Liji says: 'Even a man is more than one hundred years old, his words and deeds are no confusion.' Zhengxuan notes: 'Cheng means language.' In the book Huainanzi, there is Shuolin;and in the book Shuoyuan, there is Tancong. They are similar.
