Probe into the Translation History of Sun Zi Bing Fa

《孙子兵法》是我国军事文化之经典,代表了中国传统战略思想。钩沉该书翻译史是其翻译研究的基础,学界现有研究缺乏对最新外语译本的关照,应用型、研究型文本与外语译本未区分以及外译情况与重要译本的介绍过于简略,因此,全面梳理该书在非英语世界和在英语世界的翻译史具有必要性。《孙子兵法》翻译史有六大特点:其翻译是蔚为壮观的跨文化传播奇迹;外语译本问世之前,该书既已广为流传;其翻译与战争、国际关系等密不可分;译本类型与译者文化身份具有多样性;翻译史中多有转译现象,几种影响力大的译本多为后世译者所采用;中国人译本出现较早,但海外接受度有待提高。

Sun Zi Bing Fais a classic of China’s military culture and it represents China’s traditional strategic thought.Probing into the translation history of this book is the foundation for its translation studies.There are three deficiencies in the current researches:new translation versions have not been introduced;translation versions and other SunZiBingFaapplying and studying versions have not been differentiated;and the introduction to the translation history and important versions are not sufficient.Therefore,it is necessary to update the translation history of Sun Zi Bing Fa in the non-English speaking countries and the English-speaking countries respectively.There are six characteristics in Sun Zi Bing Fa’s translation history:its translation is a successful intercultural communication;it had been circulating in foreign countries long before its translations came into being;its translation is closely related to war and international relations;its translations are of different types and its translators are of different identities;there were many retranslations in its translation history and a few influential translation versions were adopted by later translators;Chinese translators’versions appeared early but their influence overseas are not so satisfactory.
