Ethnic psychological compatibility is a deep integration of ethnic group and also a psychological representation of Chinese community. In order to create a strong sense of community for Chinese nation and to strengthen ethnic integration,it is urgent to promote the psychological compatibility among ethnic groups. Two studies are conducted to explore the role of common in-group identity in promoting ethnic psychological compatibility.Study 1 explores the relationship between common in-group identity and ethnic psychological compatibility by using the method of bidirectional measurement. The results show that the real common in-group identity can positively predict ethnic psychological compatibility. In study 2,SC-IAT paradigm is adopted to further explore the promoting effect of common in-group identity on ethnic psychological compatibility from the perspective of explicit and implicit levels. The results show that the activation of virtual common in-group identity promotes ethnic psychological compatibility. In a word, these two studies prove that both real and virtual common in-group identity can promote ethnic psychological compatibility, and can also confirm the validity of SC-IAT paradigm in the research of psychological compatibility and intergroup relationship research.
