The paper describes the synthetic principles and methods of superabsorbent polymers. The paper introdueds the advance of studies on water absorbent resins for agricultural uses. The prospects of bioactive water retaining agents are also pointed out. Some points of views of improving the properties of water absorbent resins are raised including the further research on long- term effective and safe superabsorbents.
