The double-headed bird pattern in the two embroideries unearthed in Turpan is dated back to the time when Gaochang State reigned there, but is not proper to name it as Jivajivaka. When the embroidery was done, Buddhism was not very influential in Gaochang State; furthermore, the pattern against the red background has auspicious and happy implications, which is different from what Buddhism aspires for. The pattern has a long history in China and was widely spread. Images of double-headed birds and relevant ancient Chinese documents suggest that the doubleheaded bird on these two embroideries is probably associated with fertility worship in ancient China.
