Boundary, Gateway, Shrine: Sidelights of Vatican Pavilion at 2018 Venice Architecture Biennale

2018年威尼斯建筑双年展在圣乔治·马焦雷岛设了一个特别的展区——梵蒂冈馆,放置了选自世界各地著名建筑师设计的10座易装卸的现代小堂。在不以风格的方法,不借用壁画、偶像、音乐及文字等传统元素直接表达教堂空间的情况下,这10座小堂向大家展示了新建筑的表达能力,揭示、阐释或转译了传统教堂建筑内在的概念,并对建筑的非物质部分,即透过建筑的神性给予了精彩的呈现。

The Vatican Pavilion,as a special exhibition area at 2018 Venice Architecture Biennale,is located on the Island of San Giorgio Maggiore,on which there are ten simply assembled modem chapels designed by acclaimed international architects.Without using any traditional elements such as frescoes,idols,music or words to express the space directly in a stylized way,these ten chapels show the expression capability of modem architecture,to reveal,explain or translate the inner conception of traditional churches or chapels.They also provide an excellent presentation of the immaterial aspect of architecture through divinity.
