Historically,the beauty of Jiangnan landscape was compared to a woman living in an inner chamber who was unknown to the public.The reason was that people in China,a vast agricultural country,depended on the land for living and rarely enjoyed its beauty.As such,the discovery of the beauty of the landscape was a long process.During the Yongjia Turmoil,northern scholars who had crossed the Yangtze River were deeply influenced by metaphysics,which cultivated their taste to find out and enjoy the beauty of natural scenery.Thus,the dull landscape started to acquire a sense of passion,poetic grace and vitality.Its beauty and emotion were then been gradually discovered.As a result,the thriving development of scenery poetry and landscape painting exerted a great impact on the spiritual world of literati,opening up a brand-new realm for the literati’s lifestyles.
