《诗经》诞生于西周时期。究其演变,大约是先有了'诗',而后再成了'经'。所谓'诗',最初的功能是演唱,而不是教化世人的宏大经卷。古代中国追求'天人合一'的理想之境,《诗经》就是'天人合一'的绝佳范例。还记得《牡丹亭》里的场景:老夫子陈最良给杜丽娘上课,讲的是《诗经》的第一篇《关雎》。

The Classic of Poetry is the oldest existing collection of Chinese poetry,comprising 311 works dating from the early years of the Western Zhou Dynasty to the middle of the Spring and Autumn Period(11 th to 7 th centuries BC).It contains three main sections:the'Airs of the States,'the'Court Hymns,'and the'Eulogies.'The'Airs of the States'are shorter lyrics in simple language that are generally ancient folk songs which record the voice of the common people.Songs in the'Court Hymns'section and the'Eulogies'section tend to be longer ritual or sacrificial songs,usually in the forms of courtly panegyrics and dynastic hymns which praise the founders of the Zhou dynasty.The rich contents of this book record the life and society of the Zhou Dynasty.
