Wei-Yuan was the initiator of the idea of benefiting the society in the late Qing Dynasty which finds full expression in his Royal Classic Selection and exerted great influence on the Chinese thinkers in the late Qing Dynasty and the early period of the Republic of China. Royal Classic Selection not only helped Wei-Yuan grasp the reform theory in history but also reflected his basic qualities as a reformer and thinker, which indicates the maturity of his idea of benefiting the society.
