摘要
《乡村梦想》是澳大利亚新生代浪漫主义作家琼斯的代表作,小说延续了作家对澳大利亚乡村爱情和社会问题的一贯关注。小说的精妙之处在于在浪漫爱情叙事主线背后还隐含着一条以自闭症为主题的隐性叙事。威尔作为一个有着正常人思维和智力的自闭症患者,其自闭症不仅给家人带来多重影响,也将澳大利亚西部乡村自闭症这一隐性生存群体的艰难生存现状及被社会忽视的严峻现实置于公众视野。威尔的自闭症与蒙蒂的农场梦、威尔的自闭症与菲斯的慈善梦、威尔的自闭症与父母的康复梦是小说建构的三重梦想,与此并行不悖的是小说关于自闭症群体在澳大利亚西部乡村隐性生存之境危害性的深层忧思。作家对澳大利亚西部自闭症的关注体现了作家作为公共知识分子应有的人文担当和社会担当。
Outback Dreams is her another newly published Australian country romantic novel by Rachael Johns.It is well welcomed by readers upon publication as a series of her focus on rural love and dream.For another,the reason for the novel to stand out from contemporary Australian rural literature lies in its subtle narrative structure.That is,there lies a hidden narration of autism under the superficial love story,which focuses on Will’s influence on his parents and his brother as an autism victim.It is even worse in Australian outback.Rachael John constructs a romantic love and dream story,meanwhile,she also shows her deep concern towards the rural autism victims-a disadvantaged group,which indicates her social responsibility and moral concerns as a public intellectual.
