《四库全书总目》的集部著作提要具有文学史研究的意义 ,它表现在三个方面 :一是求新尚变的文学史观 ;二是对各种文体的源流演变做史的考察 ,在文体史研究上做了有益的探索 ;三是对文学流派产生的原因、发展演变的过程做史的考察 ,并试图总结其内部规律。总之 ,它在文学流派史研究上做出了突出贡献。
