The rapid development of social media and social networking in the recent years largely affected Hong Kong’s social and cultural environments. As traditional media’s hegemony has been challenged, social networking gained advantages in circulation and content during recent years. The research is partly based on Teun A. Van Dijk’s news discourse theory(1988) to explore the young generation’s language system through the observation of the Facebook fan page of '100 Most',which is regarded as a typical example of new media welcomed by new generation. Through observation of elements in the discourse system, the paper will discuss the social changes and its reflections on the young generation and how the media text of social media adapts to and affects the fluctuating demand of the audience as well.
