The Concept of Great Unification: Its Literary Interpretations in Sima Xiangru's Master Zixu and Imperial Forest

《子虚赋》、《上林赋》以文学的形式,客观地阐释了汉代鼎盛时期走向大一统的历史必然。主要表现在赋中的"巨丽之美"的描绘和讽谕的意图,顺应了时代的要求,与董仲舒提出的大一统思想异曲同工。

In his two prosepoems Master Zixu and Imperial Forest,Sima Xiang objectively explained the inexorable historical trend toward great unification in a time of Han Dynasty's prosperity. And the author's description of 'magnificence' and parabolic intention in the prosepoems also conformed to the demand of the times. In a sense, Sima Xiangru and Dong Zhongshu, though different in their approaches, were equal in their concepts of great unification.
