本期刊载的英外交部涉藏事务档案揭示:岗巴会谈,英人阻挠拖延,一方面以择地过冬,欲移动其营地,并着手从尼泊尔征用民夫、牦牛,同时以密探的所谓情报,放出西藏禁止同英人贸易和命令藏军准备对英人作战等传言,为发动北侵,进入江孜"谈判"制造借口。另一方面,英俄进行谈判,为在波斯和阿富汗以及西藏的利益进行争夺,讨价还价。英国要求俄国承认西藏是在英国势力范围内,并保证不派俄代理人进入西藏。

After the Gamba talks,the British tried to delay.On one hand,they chose places to spend the winter,moved their camps,and employed local people and yaks from Nepal.They prepared to invade Gyangzêby making rumors that there were so-called intelligence that Tibet would ban trade and was ready to battle with British.On the other hand,the Britain and Russia held talks to compete over both countries’interests in Persia,Afghanistan,and Tibet.The Britain wanted Russia to admit that Tibet was within the scope of the British forces,and to ensure that no agents would be sent to enter Tibetan territory.
