本期刊载的英国外交部涉藏档案揭示:英军从春丕、帕里向江孜深入,荣赫鹏并欲向拉萨推进。如果使团前进受阻,麦克唐纳指挥的英军即以武力开道。英方人认为除非在西藏内地某个恰当的中心地点进行谈判,否则谈判是完全无用的。西藏人决心打仗,正在江孜周围聚集相当数量的兵员,热宗和岗巴宗之间据说有2800名武装藏兵,是他们信赖俄国的援助。

The Britain troops went to Gyangzêthrough Chumbi and Pagri.Younghusband decided to march toward Lhasa.If the missionary was prevented,General McDonald would send troops to help.Britain knew the negotiation should be held in Tibet,or it would be meaningless.Tibetan people were determined to fight,and many troops have gathered around Gyangzê.It was said that there were about 2,800 soldiers.Their confidence relied on the support from Russia.
