Historically, there have been long-standing ethnic conflicts between Sengalos and Tamils in Sri Lanka. In 1983,a server and disastrous civil war broke out when a group of Tamils called the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam took the weapons to fight against the government troops. It is after nearly 20 years of the bloodshed war that the Sri Lanka government and LTTE reached a permanent cease-fire agreement in February this year. A new light of peace has emerged.
