Under the influence of the vassal-lord contract, the King 'should live on h is own' in medieval England. It meant that king should live on his own revenue, namely on the revenue from royal demesne. But with the increase of military and administrative expenditure, the king found new taxations successively, especiall y he could make custom as his own revenue. So the king could not and need not 'live on his own'.
