Japan produced its own naturalist literature after a basic absorption and assimilation of European, especially French, naturalist literature and its influences. It could hardly emerged from a social and cultural soil that, taking religion solely as Shinto, Buddhism and Taoism, was so different from the contemporary industrial civilization and the scientific trends of thought and of methodology. The Taigyaka Event led to the deterioration and diversion of Japanese naturalist literature, resulting eventually in the appearance of Shinkyo or Watakushi Novels, and in the end-result of Japanese naturalist literature.
