Brief Comments on the Overseas Chaozhoulese Donated to the Education before 1949

1949年以前,随着潮汕地区海外移民人数与经济实力的增长,侨资广泛而深刻地影响着潮汕社会的各个方面。在对本土公益事业的贡献上,潮侨捐资办学、助学蔚然成风,占有举足轻重的地位。其捐资教育不再局限于原籍所在的小范围乡村,他们已关注到大范围的区域。

With the increasing number of the emigrants and the development of the economy, the funds from the overseas Chinese had extensively and deeply influenced on every aspect of the Chaozhou Shantou society before 1949 . In the contribution of the native public welfare, it was common that the overseas Chaozhoulese ran schools and subsidized the students who came from the poor families. The overseas Chaozhoulese have already played an important role in this area. They have no longer limited their donations for the education to the villages in the small regions of their ancestral homes. Moreover, they have paid more attention to the larger regions.
