The Dadumin Monastery used to be a royal monastery of Buddhism in the Western Xia, located near the capital town of the dynasty. This monastery probably relates to the relics of the Gaotai Monastery in the outskirts of Yinchuan, the Capital City of the present Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region. In the reign of Emperor Renzong of the Western Xia, both Han's Buddhism and Tibetan Buddhism were practiced in the monastery, with the Tangut and Tibetan guoshi (state masters) coexisting. And this may be regarded as an epitome of the Buddhist development in the Western Xia in the late twelfth century.
