The 21 st century is the society of knowledge economy. Knowledge has now become the main origin for creating social fortune. The intellectual economy needs large quantities of persons with innovative consciousness and creative ability. The higher education is shouldering an important mission in cultivating and training creative ability. As the main body of implementing teaching, teachers should firstly possess innovative consciousness, to accommodate themselves epoch-making development and meet the needs of innovative education in colleges and universities. This article discussed the importance of innovative education, basic characteristics of innovative thought and requirements for teachers under the knowledge economy, respectively.
