Some Reflections on English Language Education in the 21st Century

2 1世纪需要能走向世界的外向型人才 ,我国外语教育担负着培养高素质外向型人才的神圣使命。目前外语教育存在着不少问题 ,极不适应新世纪的要求。着眼未来 ,认真分析存在的问题及原因 ,转变观念 ,深化外语教育教学改革 ,使学生的外语能力适应社会发展的要求。

The new century calls for world-oriented English professionals, but the present-day English language education in China cannot possibly fulfil this requirement. A careful analysis of the problems and their causes demonstrates that with a view to keeping abreast with the times it is imperatively necessary to change outdated traditional modes of thought and deepen the reform of English language education, so that the students' English competence will meet the needs of China's social and economic development.
