Analyzing Emperor Daoguang's Economic Sanction Policy Against England Before Opium War

鸦片战争前,道光帝采纳臣下意见,维护正常贸易,严惩违反法规的英商。针对英国的鸦片政策,他支持严禁派,掀起禁烟运动的高潮。在战争前夕,他支持地方督抚的反经济侵略要求,敢于断绝与英国间的贸易,并采取其它应对措施。虽然他也有妥协的一面,但抵抗为他反对经济侵略的指导思想。

Prior to Opium War, Emperor Daoguang accepted the officials' ideas, and stood up for normal trade between Qing Government and England, and punished the merchants of England who broke the law. To opium policy of England, he sustained the officials who advised to forbid opium severely, and developed the climax of forbidding opium campaign. On Opium War eve, he took up the officials' suggestions and refused to be on trade with England, and took up some suitable measurements. Although he also enforced intransigent policy, the resistance was his predominant principle against economy aggression.
