Qu' (interest) was an important element of aesthetics in the classic Chinese poetic theories. The concept derived before the Tang Dynasty, matured in the Tang and Song Dynasties, thrived in the Ming Dynasty, and was intensified in the Qing Dynasty, during which it had been elevated and extended. This aesthetic notion is one of many an approach by which the classic Chinese poetic theories work on the aesthetic nature of poetry.
