布罗代尔“地理环境决定论”辨析

费尔南·布罗代尔并非地理环境决定论者。首先,他未排斥而是充分肯定了人类对地理环境的改造活动;其次,他的确是别出心裁,把地理环境拟人化,巧妙地将人与物融为一体。在布罗代尔看来,地理环境根本不是其论述的目之所在,只不过是为了探索人类历史发展的深层次问题而采用的一种手段。

Braudel was not a geographic environmental determinist. First, he did not exclude but rather affirm human beings' change of the geographic environment. Second, he did create something uncommon, the personification of the geographic environment which ingeniously combines men and animals. For him, geographic environment was not the key point of his argument but merely an approach to make deeper exploration of the development of human history.
