Phonetic Notation of Ancient Poems Should Conform to Standard Chinese Pronunciation

论述“叶音”是古人为求得古诗文诵读时韵脚协谐而人为地任意改变字音的一种方法,过去古音学家对此早就作过深刻地批判。指出当前仍有一些汉语读本在使用“叶音”法作音注,是在承袭古人的错误,如果按照“叶音”诵读古诗文,容易造成汉语普通话字音的混乱,建议废止这种违反语音发展规律的音注方法。

Yeyin' is a way of phonetic notation used freely by the ancients for the purpose of achieving rhyme while reciting poems. It was bitterly criticized by the ancient phonologists. But 'Yeyin' is still found to be used in some Chinese reading materials, thus repeating the same mistakes as our forefathers made. It is suggested that this way of phonetic notation be abolished because its violation of phonetic rules may bring about confusion in standard Chinese pronunciation.
