Hu Shi s relations with the CCP during 1920s were related to his political opinions and activities since the late period of the New Culture Movement, and also related to the CCP's policy at the time of trying to establish a united democratic front. Their domestic and foreign political views had many differences. Though these differences effected Hu Shi's relations with the CCP to a certain degree, their wish to seek common ground was fundamentally unchanged. The reasons leading the CCP to attach less importance to Hu Shi and his faction were probably (1) cooperation between the CCP and the Guomindang, and (2) that since the May Thirtieth Movement, the CCP s revolutionary work had entered a period of concrete workers' and peasants' movements and even armed struggles. Though the CCP still made some efforts to win over Hu Shi and admired his public praise of the Soviet Union, the conflict between their basic political positions was not reconciled.
