The depiction of the French Revolution in the 1805 edition of The Prelude by William Wordsworth is featured by his reflection upon'liberty'. Before the revolution,he,entertaining that the man is born free,is determinately convinced of the capability of the man to'break bondage'of tradition and to'build liberty'for human; whilst his views tends to be more mild after witnessing the bloody slaughter in the revolution, holding that liberty should only be achieved with the means of reason,or else violence and despotism will be incurred. It is found by tracing the origin of his thought on liberty that his early views on liberty are partially inherited from Rousseau and and Beaubuy and the later divergence is heavily colored with rationalism of William Godwin.
