鼻烟壶,为盛放鼻烟的器物,特种手工艺品之一,距今已有近400年的历史。鼻烟原产于美洲,在明末清初时传入中国。鼻烟是一种烟草制品,是将烟叶烘晒、细磨、加入香料发酵而成,无需点燃,用鼻吸服,故而得名。由于鼻烟传入时并无特制的容器,当鼻烟得到皇帝的喜爱后,鼻烟壶的制作便应运而生。材质多样、器作严谨、工艺入微、装饰古雅的鼻烟壶纷至沓来。它不仅展示了我国古代匠师们的卓越才智和高超技艺,也是中西文化交流融合的实物见证。

Snuff bottles are the containers for holding snuff tobacco, which is one of the special arts and crafts; it has a history of nearly 400 years. Snuff is native to the Americans; it was introduced into China in the late Ming dynasty. Snuff is a kind of tobacco products made with tobacco baking, fine grinding, add spices fermented, which need not to lit, only inhaling with nose, so comes its name. When tobacco was brought in, there is no special container, but as the emperor was growing fancy on the snuff tobacco, snuff bottle was born. The snuff bottles are made with diversified materials, with special skill of paining inside and outside of the snuff bottles. It not only shows the Chinese ancient craftsman’s outstanding talent and skill, but also witnesses the real communication between Chinese and western culture fusion.
